Snoring:
Most snoring occurs due to one of the following reasons:
Nasal Obstruction blockage to nasal passages from large turbinates or a deviated
septum leads to mouth breathing and snoring.
Tongue Position The tongue is a muscle attached to the inside of the chin. If
your jaw is small or your chin lacks prominence then your tongue will fall to the
back of your throat causing snoring.
Soft Palate Vibration As we age our tissues lose elasticity and vibrate more
easily. Firming up the tissues will often correct snoring.
Nasal Obstruction (treatment)
Turbinates are folds in the lining of the nose which become swollen when
irritated. Some people develop congestion with the slightest irritant.
Somnplasty is where a probe is used to permanently shrink the lining over the
turbinates. This then leads to clear nasal breathing.
Tongue Position (treatment)
A jaw which is too retropostioned can be brought forward with a jaw thrusting
device that fits onto your teeth.
Soft Palate (treatment)
Somnoplasty is where a probe is used to shrink the soft palate tissues and decrease
or stop snoring altogether.
